Our Story
Mama Beni is more than just food—it’s love, resilience, and community.
Mama Beni is more than just food—it’s love, resilience, and community.
My journey started when I was just 18 years old. I was pregnant, facing serious health complications, and had no support system. I couldn’t work, and after my baby was born, I still had to figure out how to provide while staying home to care for my child.
So I turned to what I knew—cooking.
What started as a way to survive quickly became something much bigger. My community showed up for me in ways I never expected. Customers—many of them strangers at the time—became my support system. Some would come into my kitchen and help me cook. Others would help deliver food. They showed me love during a time when I felt like I had nothing.
That love became my foundation.
That’s why I call myself Mama Beni—because this business was built not just by me, but by my village.
Where It All Began
Before all of this, my story started far from here.
I came to the United States from Benin, West Africa, a small country between Togo and Nigeria. Growing up, it was just me and my dad for a time, and he pushed me into the kitchen early. That’s where I developed my nurturing spirit—cooking, caring for others, and finding joy in feeding people.
Over time, cooking became my way of expressing love.
My Story
I’m proud to say that today, at 24 years old, I am one of the youngest—and the only Beninese woman in my area—doing what I do at this level.
But for me, this is bigger than business.
I want to put Benin on the map.
Many people are familiar with West African food through other countries, but very few have experienced authentic Beninese cuisine. Through Mama Beni, I’m sharing my culture, my roots, and the flavors of where I come from.
Every dish I make is intentional.
Every plate tells a story.
From My Heart to You
Cooking is how I show love.
It always has been.
And everything I’ve built comes from:
-
My journey as a young mother
-
The strength I found in hard times
-
The community that became my family
-
And the pride I have for my country
When you support Mama Beni, you’re not just buying food—you’re becoming part of the story.
